March 9, 2007, Newsletter Issue #40: Keep Your Chicken Breasts Safe

Tip of the Week

You should store raw chicken in its original wrapper in the coldest part of your refrigerator. The coldest parts of refrigerators tend to be at the bottom. Fresh chicken should be stored in the refrigerator no more than two days. When freezing chicken, you should wrap the chicken (still packaged in its original packaging) in aluminum foil. If you order chicken in bulk, it usually comes vacuum packed in individual pieces of chicken breasts, wings, thighs and legs. You should only remove the pieces that you are sure to cook, as you cannot re-freeze chicken.
