September 8, 2006, Newsletter Issue #16: Labels and Beef Patties

Tip of the Week

When you are purchasing beef patties, you have several choices to choose from. The government requires that the lean/fat composition of beef be labeled. When looking for lean beef patties, you will see a percentage on the label which represents how how lean the meat is. For instance, a label with 95% is very lean meat. You should know that according to USDA guidelines, any beef that is 91% or higher is considered lean. If you are watching your cholesterol, you will want to purchase only lean beef patties.
